Guided Darkroom Sessions

A Full Day session is $250. Chemistry, lenses, and easels will be supplied, but the client will supply their own paper.

We will flatten, spot, and bag the dried prints at no extra cost.

As costs continue to increase for gelatin silver papers and chemistry, and access to darkrooms dwindles, we feel a responsibility to share our space and our expertise with artists interested in learning to make silver prints from B&W negatives. We are proud to offer Guided Darkroom Sessions, where we work with artists of any skill level, novice to pro, to advance their printing skills.

For newbies, we will begin by explaining the process, enlarger, lenses, chemistry, paper, etc. We will then walk the artist through each step, from negative to print, explaining how decisions are made in regards to exposure, contrast, development, and more. For folks who have some printing experience, we will help with some advanced techniques, such as dodging & burning, working through the nitty gritty to get to a perfect print. For frequent printers, we’re happy to help in any way we can be of use, whether with making large prints (ie: 16x20 or 20x24), toning techniques, anything we can do to help.

$100/Day plus Chemistry - (8x10 - $20) (11x14 - $35) (16x20 - $50) (20x24 - $75)

$40 Mandatory one-time tutorial

We are happy to open our darkroom to experienced printers in need of a place to make silver prints. Unlike the Guided Sessions, we’ll leave you alone to do your thing. We’re happy to offer opinions, but we won’t be in the darkroom with you. We’ll flatten your prints for free, but spotting is not included. Printers must supply their own paper.
